Clickthroughs: Yahoo is leading, Google follows

Nielsen//NetRatings in its latest study reports says that Google and Yahoo is expanding their market share and the duo’s growth rate is ostensibly outpacing the overall growth of search engine market for the past year. MSN is a distant third.

On the search front Google may be the market leader but if you consider the clickthroughs (What is click through rate: This is the percentage of viewers that visit a link compared to the total number of times the link is showed in the result page.) Yahoo is leading ahead. Last report of comScore gSearch finds out Google may outpace Yahoo in search result, but as far as total ad inventory goes, Yahoo is a bit ahead. In March 2006,

Yahoo increased the proportion of its searches that contained a sponsored ad by 30 percent year-over-year; 59.7 percent of searches now display ads. Google showed ads on 52.9 percent of searches, up 50 percent from a year ago, but comScore says this is a meaningful discrepancy.
