1. Herbal tea
For preparing a potent herbal tea for dissolving blood clots and preventing clot formation, take two dried yarrow leaves and add one and a half cup of boiling water to it. Steep for 10 minutes and drink it with a tablespoon of honey. Continue taking three cups of yarrow tea for four weeks to remove blood clots. A tablespoon of fresh yarrow juice too taken three times a day can give the same effect. Yarrow prevents blood clots. Make sure that you are not taking any anticoagulant drugs when you use yarrow as the effect of anticoagulants can be amplified by the use of yarrow, leading to severe bleeding.
2. Ginger
Ginger is a natural anticoagulant that helps in improving blood circulation in the body. Ginger works in the same manner as aspirin and can be taken as a substitute to this medicine. Take ginger tea every day or just chew a piece of ginger down your throat to avoid formation of blood clots. Again, make sure that you are not on blood thinning medications and don’t have other ailments that can trigger profuse bleeding due to the anti-clotting properties of ginger.
3. Herbal infusion
Surgery is a great risk factor for formation of blood clots. For preventing blood stagnation before and after the surgical process, you can make a herbal infusion with sweet clover, horse chestnut and witch hazel. Take a teaspoon each of all ingredients and add to a cup of boiling water. This can be taken three times a day for removing blood clots and prevention as well. All the ingredients have blood thinning properties and help in smooth flowing of blood.
4. Hawthorne
Hawthorne is a cardiac tonic that increases blood supply to the heart, strengthens blood vessels, cures vascular insufficiency and prevents blood clots with its blood thinning properties. The dosage has to be discussed with a herbalist before taking hawthorne as large doses can lead to complications. Again, ensure that you are not on other blood thinners.
5. Garlic
Garlic is a natural herb that helps in reducing cholesterol, blood pressure and also acts as a blood thinner, preventing blood clots from forming. 3-4 cloves can be taken every day to prevent clotting. The ingredients in garlic are also strong enough to melt clots which are already formed. Garlic is a very strong blood thinner, and must be avoided before surgery as it can lead to excessive bleeding and slow clotting of blood.
6. Nattokinase
Nattokinase, an enzyme supplement that is developed form natto, a fermented product of soy, has the power to dissolve clots and prevent its formation as well. Nattokinase works in the same manner as plasmin, which is an enzyme produced in our body that prevents clot formation. Nattokinase is known to dissolve clots within 18 hours of administration. Three capsules taken in the morning, evening and bedtime is the suggested dosage. However, always take the opinion of a doctor before taking them.
7. Turmeric
A natural anticoagulant and blood thinner, turmeric can be taken as a supplement or included in plenty in your regular diet to get its anti-coagulant benefits. Take a teaspoon of turmeric along with your meal or drinks every day as a preventive and also to dissolve clots.
8. Hot and cold pack
In the case of injury, there is the risk of clot formation on the site or elsewhere in the body. Hot and cold packs can be used in combination along with keeping the injured area elevated. Elevation will prevent swelling, blood stagnation, and clot formation. A hot pack will dissolve clots and a cold pack will prevent swelling under the skin.
9. Omega3 fatty acids
Omega3 fatty acids prevent blood clots and prevent coronary diseases and heart attacks. Evening primrose oil, cod liver oil, flax seeds, etc., are rich in omega3 fatty acids and can be taken every day in the right doses. Ensure that you are not on blood thinning medications to prevent excessive thinning of blood.
