1. Fenugreek seeds
Two studies conducted on people with both types of diabetes 1 and 2 showed that the powder of the seeds lowered the blood glucose level and improved the levels of triglycerides and blood cholesterol. Fenugreek seeds contain the active ingredients coumarin, nicotinic acid and trogonelline that have antidiabetic properties. To prepare a drink, just crush the fenugreek seeds, and put them in hot, boiled water and keep it for some time before drinking.
2. Chromium
Chromium picolinate controls the blood sugar level by increasing the efficiency of insulin. It helps to maintain the stability of the blood sugar by using insulin properly. It is very beneficial for people suffering from diabetes and hypoglycemia. Foods containing chromium include whole grain breads, cereals, cheese, lean meats, and certain spices like black pepper and thyme.
3. Bilberry
Bilberry is rich in flavonoids like proanthocyanidins, and anthocyanidins. The flavonoids have beneficial effects on the capillaries. Diabetes is responsible for causing some kind of damage on the small blood vessels of the kidneys, eyes, tips of the fingers, and toes. This damage can be healed to a certain extent by using bilberry. Herbalists have used bilberry as food for curing various ailments. 4. Whole foods
Blood sugar level can be stabilized by using some whole foods like vegetables, fruits, beans, grains, seeds, and nuts. They are rich in fiber and various other nutritional elements. 6. Apple cider vinegar
Certain nutritional components in apple cider vinegar controls the increase of blood sugar when you eat food. Take about 2 tablespoons of vinegar, add a pinch of salt, and mix it with a glass of water. Drink this mixture before eating your meals for best results.

Aloe vera is a well known herb known for its medicinal and healing properties. It is also grown as a household plant. In many parts of the world, dry gel and sap of the plant is taken out from the inner parts of the leaves and used for treating diabetes. Aloe vera is considered to be very effective in lowering the blood glucose levels quickly. Fresh juice taken from the leaves is very effective for curing this type of diabetes. Drinking 1 tablespoon of the juice twice daily is recommended. Commercial versions of the juice can also be used.
8. Garlic
Garlic has antioxidant properties and micro-circulatory effects. Studies have found that garlic plays a key role in increasing insulin levels in the body, thereby reducing blood sugar. Garlic helps to reduce blood glucose levels, increases the secretion, and slows degradation of insulin. So, garlic makes an important addition to the diet of people who suffer from diabetes.
9. Gymnema sylvestre
The herb is known for its ’sugar destroying’ properties. When the herb is used, it reduces the need for insulin and also lowers the glucose levels quickly with the help of the active components known as gymnemic acid. The component increases the production of beta cells too. The herb is used in naturopathic and ayurvedic medicines to reduce triglycerides and LDL, increase HDL, help digestion, control cravings for sugar, and as an aid in weight loss.
